Bear with me legacy fundraisers - this might get a little deep.

Updated: Apr 23

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about...death. (Yep. I said it.)

Apparently, it’s a normal thing to do at my age.

I’ve been to three funerals in the past year of family elders. And while each one was a celebration of life, it’s hard not to come away without a few big questions rattling around in my head.

Why am I here? What’s my purpose? What happens after I’m gone?

Heavy stuff, I know. But it’s led me to reflect on what I want to leave behind—not just for my daughters, but for their children too. And, a world I’d like them to live in.

It's made me a little anxious. But also…strangely hopeful.

I’ve started thinking about writing a Will. And yes, I’m seriously considering leaving gifts in it.

Because now, I really get the mindset of people who choose to leave a gift in their Will to a charity. It's about connecting with causes that reflect our values so we can leave the world just a little better than we found it.

So if you’re a legacy fundraiser, here’s my gentle nudge:

Take the time to find the heartbeat of your supporters' values. Show them how your charity can carry those values forward after they’re gone.

Done sensitively, it’s kind of beautiful.
